WHAT IS STEREO OR 3D?
The word "stereo" originates from the Greek and means "relating to space". This exploration of space within the photographic frame is why I have been drawn to this medium. Our perception of space is created almost exclusively by our eyes, which are about 65mm (2.5 in.) apart. Since each eye sees life from a slightly different position, the two images on our retinas are not exactly identical. It is only a small difference, but it is enough for us to experience "seeing-in-depth".
Similar to our two eyes, a 3D photograph consists of two pictures taken from two viewpoints, usually about 65mm apart. There are several ways to view 3D images, including viewers, projectors, and the way they are presented here, as anaglyphs, viewed through red/blue glasses. This method works as effectively on paper as it does on your computer screen.
